MX is short for mix. The yarn is dyed before it is knitted, so the brown and grey run through the upper in bands, the way they run through stone.

Background

For years the 350 V2 was the cleanest shoe in any room. One piece of knit, one stripe, nothing else, and every colourway a flat even field.

The MX series broke that. The yarns go into the machine already mixed, so the pattern comes out of the knitting itself and cannot be repeated exactly. Rock, from December 2021, is the darkest of them — sedimentary streaks pushed through charcoal, closer to a cut face of stone than to a shoe.

Underneath sits Boost, the pellet foam adidas brought out in 2013 and has never bettered. A decade of shoes has been built on it. This one still walks better than most.
