Background

Jerry Lorenzo came to this late and from outside. No school, no training — he took clothes apart to see how they were held together, and started making his own in 2013, at an age when most designers already have a house behind them.

What he built has almost no noise in it. Long lines, muted colour, nothing announced. The Los Angeles running shoe came first; this is that shoe sent outdoors, mid-cut and lugged, and named after a city where nobody needs a hiking boot.

The suede is washed before it ever leaves the factory. It arrives without the stiffness a new shoe usually carries — which is another way of saying it starts where other shoes take a year to get.
